Beach Rides / Oil on canvas
Included in the Exhibition “A Day at the Seaside” this painting has a heavily gessoed surface with raised textural qualities. The scene typifies halcyon days spent at the seaside riding donkeys and having fun. Rendered in an impressionistic manner to capture the light and colour. The whole work is deeply reminicent of childhood nostalgia and the sunlit patterns illuminate the figures in conversation as they ride the beach. This could be any English seaside resort and should be regarded as generic to most. In their primary colours the children appear to be related to one family.
