French GarlicFrench Garlic Oil on canvas 30″x 20″
Painted after a trip to Nice in the South of France and inspired by the produce at the local market there. Painted in a realistic way it conveys the form by means of capturing light. The blue post is central to the composition. The sunlight that plays across the surfaces of the subject make this work a very complex configuration of light and dark passages, but the offset blue gives an anchor to the whole thing and a welcome resting place for the viewer. There is a tremendous sense of reality in this detailed, yet simple subject.
